Few days back, I went to one of the most popular shoe shopping outlet in my city along with my sweet brother-in-law.

He was looking for a party shoe for a big wedding ceremony of his cousin. So we went together for his shopping and after 2-3 hours of rigorous researching, we finally selected a party shoe of his liking.

We checked the sizing and fitting at the shop in a hurry and then purchased it and brought it at home.

But when he came at his home and tried wearing it, he found it that the shoe is somewhat smaller to his feet sizing.

He then contacted me and told about the sizing issue.

The problem now was that he was at his home town 1000 km away from the actual shoe shop from where we actually bought the shoe.

The wedding ceremony was just two days away and he really wanted a quick solution to this sizing issue.

After spraying your new shoes, wear them till they become dry.

Just keep repeating this procedure, until your shoes become comfortable and bigger to use.

I think very few people know that the most overlooked stuff like silica gel can also be used to stretch your new shoes.

This can be used to stretch your new footwear by half to one size bigger at the most.

You must have noticed that the silica gel packets often come with the new shoes which are placed inside the shoes to prevent moisture and further shrinking of your new shoes.

It is very beneficial to keep these packets all the time inside the shoes whenever you are not using your new footwear.

Tip No. 3: Try Shoe Trees

STRATTON CEDAR SHOE TREE 2-PACK FOR MEN (for 2 pairs of shoes) - GROWN IN USA (Large)

Shoe Tree is a type of device that is mainly used to prevent shrinking and to increase the overall life span of your new shoe or any other footwear.

It is actually made to put inside the shoe and its size is equal to the size of your foot.

These shoe trees are often made from strong wood material such as cedar, lime or beech.

It is also helpful in preventing internal moisture and odor in the shoe.

In spite of their main usage of shape preservation, they can also be used in safely stretching your new tight shoes.

Regular use of the Shoe Tree will create extra pressure on the front side and at the heel side of your shoe.

This process gradually helps you to make your shoes bigger and comfortable to use.

To get the best results, you can even place these shoe trees inside your tight shoe along with some rags for some days.

It will surely help you to extend your shoes to a desirable level.

Tip No. 4: Make Use of Oats and Grain

This is one of those “Old is Gold” cowboy tricks, which you can use for your new leather shoes and boots.

However, I strongly suggest staying away from this method if you have new expensive pair of leather shoes and boots in order to avoid any damage to your luxurious pair of shoes.

In case you do not possess a freezer, you can make use of rice or oats along with grain to fill up your new tight shoes.

This procedure involves swelling of the oats and grain with the help of water.

When you place these wet oats and grain inside the shoe, it gradually expands overnight which in turn helps to stretch your new shoes to some extent.

Few precautions to mention here:

Do not put too much oats or grain inside the shoe because it might expand your shoes and make it excessively bigger which you really don’t want for sure!

The next thing to remember here is to pour sufficient water so that the oats and grain will expand sufficiently enough so that your shoes will stretch to your desired level.

And third thing is you should at least wait for 10-12 hours to see the results for yourself.

Tip No. 5: Use of Potatoes

Yes, this is also one of the known and tried methods by several people out there.

You can use this simple home remedy to stretch your new shoes to some extent.

This process involves stuffing your shoes with mashed or peeled potatoes as much as possible.

Then put your shoes away from direct sunlight to avoid any damage to the leather material.

Let your shoes become dry and then slowly take out the stuffed potatoes from the shoes.

Once you wear those shoes, you will feel the extended size and comfort for yourself.

Now many people will complain about the potential smelly shoes after the use of potatoes for stretching them.

But it has been found out that potatoes do not smell bad and actually they work as an odor repellent.

It is also used to stretch particular parts of your shoes such as the toe or heel side of your new tight shoes.

You can simply try bigger sized peeled potatoes if you do not get preferred results.

However, to make your shoes roomier, you need to wait at least for 10-12 hours.

So take it easy when using this method.

Tip No. 6: Simply Use Your Shoes Regularly At Home

Yeah, I know it sounds very simple and straightforward.

But believe me; it has really worked for lots of folks out there.

Once you buy new pair of shoes, it might feel little tight when you wear them at first.

But after regular usage, the leather material tends to stretch gradually after few days.

To make your new shoes more comfortable to use, you can begin using them first at home.

Wear them at your home before you start using them for your regular work or any other outdoor activities.

You can even start wearing thick socks along with your new shoes to speed up the overall stretching process.

Try more than 1-2 pair of thick socks to stretch and loosen up your new shoes at home.

First wear them for some time and then increase the time gradually to loosen up the material of your shoes.

This will definitely help you make your shoes bigger in sizing and thus more comfortable to use later on.

Tip No. 7: Try Sock Balls for Stretching Your Shoes

Again, this is one of the easiest and more harmless methods out there that you can try at your home without any uneasiness.

This particular method is especially useful and important for delicate shoes.

The fact is that sock balls do not damage your shoe material and will allow you to stretch your new tight shoes with complete safety.

Just obtain 4-5 pair of thick socks and roll them to make a big sock ball.

Now this sock ball must fit inside your shoe comfortably.

Place this sock ball near the areas where you want to stretch your shoes like the toe area or heel side of your shoe.

Alternatively, you can also use a blow dryer to speed up the overall process of stretching.

Once you put the sock balls inside the shoe, let it be for at least next 10-12 hours to see the effective results.

Caution:

If you intend to use a blow dryer, please do not use it continually at one spot to avoid any possible heat damage to your shoe.

Tip No. 8: Experiment with Moleskin

Dr. Scholl’s Moleskin Plus Padding Roll (24" x 4 5/8") / All-Day Pain Relief and Protection from Shoe Friction with Soft Padding That Conforms to the Foot and Can Be Cut To Any Size

Some people tend to use this method to stretch new pair of shoes.

Moleskin is actually a kind of heavy cotton fabric which is used to prevent and cure blisters.

The clothing which is made from moleskin is known to offer durability and softness.

It is actually paired with an adhesive backing that acts as a medium to cure friction injuries on your feet.

But instead of using it on your skin, you can alternatively use it on your new shoes.

Moleskin can act as a great cushioning device and it can be used to offer cushioning to tight shoe straps.

You can obtain moleskin padding rolls online and use it to put them inside the shoe.

I have not tried them myself but many folks have tried it out with some success. You can use it to see the results too.

Ziploc Storage Bags with New Grip 'n Seal Technology, For Food, Sandwich, Organization and More, Gallon, 75 Count

Now, I must say this is one of the most widely known methods available to read on so many sites on the internet.

There is no rocket science but just plain old Science!

You take some Ziploc bags which are made up of Green technology.

Then pour half the water inside those bags and place them inside your tight shoes.

Now, simply put your shoes inside the deep freezer.

Allow the Ziploc bags to expand overnight and then take your shoes out of the freezer.

Now, you have to perform the most chilling task.

Yes, you guessed it right.

Take out those water bags and place your feet inside the shoe.

Spend some time walking in them around your home and allow your cold shoes to constrict and be fit to your feet sizing.

Here is a great video tutorial by Michelle Phan on how to stretch your shoes with just the water bags and deep freezer. Check it out.

Few warnings I would like to share with you:

It is better to also tie the water bags well in advance before you place them inside the shoes.

A lot of folks do this mistake of not packing the bags properly and then damaging the shoes in the process.

I think this method definitely works because water converts into ice as it freezes and then slowly expands the area around it.

However, I strongly suggest to not trying this method if you have more expensive shoes to stretch.

Tip No. 10: Try out Newspaper Plus Shoe Stretcher Spray Method

Several people have tried this method and have gotten the successful results.

The method is very simple and can be easily doable at your home.

It involves grabbing lots of old newspapers and then rolling them to make it a paper ball.

Now simply make it wet with warm water.

Yes, we highly prefer warm water instead of cold water as it helps to expand the paper ball properly.

After this, put that wet ball inside the toe area of your shoe.

Just make sure that you put this paper ball tightly inside the shoe to get the preferred results.

It greatly helps to make use of leather shoe stretcher spray on the newspaper ball.

It can immensely help you to widen your new tight shoes and boots quickly.

After at least 7-8 hours, gently take out the paper ball out of the shoe.

Now, it is time for you to try out your newly expanded shoes.

If you still feel your shoes somewhat tight, then repeat the procedure to expand your shoes more.

Along with this newspaper method, you can also try the above mentioned deep freezer method to stretch your shoes further.

Alternatively, you can even apply the wet sock ball stretching method with this one as mentioned above.

Tip No. 12: Try Rubbing Alcohol with Water

Before I say anything about this method, let me warn you about one thing.

Overuse of rubbing alcohol on high priced expensive leather shoes can result in discoloration of your shoe skin.

So if you have more expensive leather shoes, try to make use of other methods mentioned here.

Simply take a spray bottle and fill it up with fifty percent water and fifty percent rubbing alcohol.

Stir this mixture well and spray this mixture on your tight shoes.

Spray it well on those parts where you need more stretching.

Now wear those shoes quickly while they are wet.

Wear those tight shoes and walk in them for about 20-30 minutes till the alcohol dries out from your shoes.

An alternative method to this is to make use of cotton socks and soaking them in the rubbing alcohol.

Put on those wet socks and wear your shoes with them.

Walk in those shoes till the alcohol dries out completely.

You can repeat this method till you get the desired shoe stretching.

In case, your skin is sensitive to alcohol chemical, it is better to avoid wet cotton socks method.

If you want to stretch particular areas of your shoe like heel area or toe area, you may use a wet cotton ball full of rubbing alcohol on those specific areas to stretch those areas well.

Tip No. 13: Heating Your Shoes with Hair Dryer

This is another very simple yet very effective method to make your new shoes bigger without damaging your shoes.

Just put on some pair of thick socks then wear your new tight shoes.

Finally use your home hairdryer to heat your shoes for some time.

Walk in them for half an hour till the shoes become cool.

In the end, you will see some noticeable difference in the sizing of your shoes.

Repeat the procedure till you get the required amount of stretching.

The main science behind this technique is the fact that heat makes things expand a bit.

Use your hairdryer to the highest level.

Use it more on the parts of the shoes where you need more expansion or stretching.

You can even flex and bend your feet while blowing your new shoes with hairdryer to get the wanted results.

Check out the following great video tutorial by a fellow youtuber “Cam3ronSupreme”.

Few Things to Remember:

You will have to repeat this procedure for at least 20-30 minutes to see the required expansion of your shoes.

Another very important thing to mention is that you should not try this method with your vintage shoes because it can lead to weakening the glue bonds of vintage shoes.

Tip No. 15: Combo Method of Newspaper, Thick Socks, Shoe Stretcher and Hair Dryer

We have already mentioned about this method in the tip no. 13.

But there is a little twist which we have added to this method. Instead of just making use of socks and hair dryer, we have added two extra dry shoe stretching techniques.

Dry methods are safe to use with this method because it will not harm your shoes which could be the case if you use wet stretching techniques.

So before you make use of the techniques mentioned in the tip no. 13, you will have to use two methods one after another.

a. First make use of newspaper stretching method.

b. Then use a shoe stretcher device which you can get online easily.

c. After using these two methods, finally you can use the technique mentioned in the tip no. 13.
